About Us

We believe that life should be lived vividly, with color,  connection, and deeply in the present.

In this time of global awakening, we are beginning to realize that our happiness is found in the present. In the now. With truly authentic connections to the people, places, and things around us. Stories are the currency of connection and our homes are where our stories are written, they have the potential to enhance our experience of the everyday. The products you welcome into your home ought to have a meaningful story, purpose and soul touched by the people who’ve made them.

That’s why now, more than ever, we seek to support artists sharing that same meaningful spirit of connection, community, sustainability and true heart in their craft.

Much Love,
The Habitat Nine Community

Our Mission

Our joy comes from empowering these artists by bringing their incredible art into loving homes across borders and cultures. We personally travel and select the highest quality sustainable products, originally designed and handmade at home by traditional master artisans in México. We are committed to supporting a happy work from home environment, which means desired working hours and fair wages are determined by the artisan. This way they are able to easily expand their reach outside their local borders, at whatever capacity they choose, which directly fuels their art form and their families.

Meet the Founder

Becca Young is an interior designer and MBA grad who desires to use her previous corporate product marketing experience to fuel the Slow Design movement, which aims to promote consumerism that supports the well being for artists, community, and the natural environment.

Why did you decide to create Habitat Nine?
After an incredibly challenging year navigating losing a dear friend to suicide, my marriage coming to an end, a job loss, and my father passing away, I decided to sell everything I owned and follow a lifelong dream of mine to move to México in order to slow down and pursue a deep reconnection with self. I really needed to pause and re-examine my beliefs to uncover what I truly desire out of this one precious life.

Through a beautiful trail of synchronicity, I found myself on a journey to a remote village in México where I met wonderful artists, discovered their craft, and promptly fell in love. It was a time when I wasn’t sure where my own home was, but I was so warmly welcomed into theirs. As a former designer and corporate marketer, I knew exactly how I could lend a hand in helping fuel abundance for these artisans by connecting their art into more homes beyond their home studios and local borders. In doing so I've also uncovered what fuels my own heart, as I deeply love traveling to discover new places, faces and unique sustainable crafts. So, Habitat Nine was born.

Where does the name Habitat Nine come from?

“Habitat” refers to the places where each piece is lovingly made, in the artist’s home studio. It's also the place where each unique piece will reside once it makes its way into its new owner's home. In numerology, “nine” stands for fulfillment, wisdom, self-examination, enlightenment, and higher consciousness. Nine is also connected to one's higher purpose and ultimate life's mission. The number encourages us to take a bird's eye view of our lives...and that's precisely what these artists and México challenged and inspired me to do on my own transformative journey.

What’s your vision for Habitat Nine?
I so deeply admire the artists and makers who work with us. They’ve centered their lives around family, community, and the quality of their art which is their primary income source, and I want them to continue to thrive. I'm here to help ensure they can thrive as artists by connecting their life's work into welcoming homes, so others can love and admire their craft as much as I do. This isn't Amazon Prime. These artists are hand-making treasures, and each piece is made to order with care, especially for you. Some things in life are simply worth the wait.
